Belgian innovative barometer at the World Expo 2010 in Shanghai, China
 |
The World Expo 2010 Shanghai promises to be the largest of its kind. Bigger than ever, and - according to experts - can there ever be. As with the Olympics, China wants to show what it has in its march. With a huge complex just outside the center of Shanghai, the organization will welcome over the next six months over 80 million visitors. Naturally, the Expo is aimed primarily at Chinese visitors who in this way will have an idea of what is going on in the rest of the world . But it is expected that also millions of foreigners will be surprised by the high-tech gadgets that will be unpacked. After a dazzling opening ceremony, the first day was already a surprise because there were just 400 000 visitors turned up here. |
| The Belgian pavilion emphasizes alongside the unmistakable chocolate, beer and diamonds, his only resource: creativity. Centralis staying a huge brain neuron with some very beautiful light effects. |
| In 2009, Dingens Clocks & Barometers developed a new system barometer without mercury: the "Innovacelli" Barometer". This was done in collaboration with the Innovation Centre Limburg, IWT, University of Hasselt and Sirris. The mercury is replaced by metal boxes that respond to the changing pressure of the air. The movements of the boxes are transferred to a liquid who captures very accurately the pressure in the glass tube. |
| The "Innovacelli Barometer" is presented at this Expo as a highly accurate, sustainable and ecological substitute for the ancient mercury barometer. On this way, Dingens will meet the ecological spirit and contribute to the theme of the Expo: Better City, Better Life. Concerning cooperation, the chances, given by Flanders Investment & Trade (FIT) for the participation in World Expo are the icing on the cake. Very important was undoubtedly the financial contribution of a Chinese partner . The fact that the participation at the expo than just can take place in his hometown of Shanghai is also unique. |
| Developing weather tools for both consumers and professional users remains the main goal. The new product was developed with usability as a primary objective. So, many additional options were added to the barometer and that gives an advantage compared to the original mercury barometer. But the high degree of accuracy can also make accessible other markets in professional precision pressure measurement. Both for medicine, laboratories and industry, products can be developed on size. To let it know at the whole world, Barometers & Clocks Dingens get the chance to give a presentation on the Health Care days during the Expo, Shanghai on May 19, 2010. |
| All attention is now focused on the export of this unique product. Besides the direct approach to potential customers during Expo 2010, the Expo is a reference with which Dingens Clocks & Barometers Dingens will introduce the new product to the whole world. With distribution centers in Kunming (China) and Boston (Usa), we want to make this ambition. |

In the footsteps of Ferdinand Verbiest ...
Through the centuries, Belgians played an important role in the development of meteorology. Ferdinand Verbiest was a Flemish missionary and scientist. He was also a valued astronomer at the imperial court of Kangxi in the Qing Dynasty in the 17th century. He built a toolbox for the Old Beijing observatory and was partly responsible for the change in the Chinese calendar , which was based on his astronomical observations. He experimented with and designed meteorological instruments and examined "the state of the air". For his merits he was appointed mandarin .
With the development of the Belgian precision barometer, we are entering in the footsteps of Ferdinand Verbiest. Dingens Barometers & Clocks develops and produces less than half a century meteorological instruments and wants to contribute with an environmentally Innovacelli to a better city, better life for the future. |
