General
The Tendency barometer is invented by Alexander Adie in 1818. This instrument has some special qualities compared with a Torricelli barometer:
- it can easily be transported,
- it doesn't carry mercury
- the scale is 2,5 times larger
During the expeditions to Antartica 1902 - 1904 this instrument was used as the most important weather forecasting instrument. The Tendency barometer did keep his good functionality in difficult circumstances as the extreme law temperatures, the heavy wind and a long journey on the ocean.
